Hello,

Repeated belching is seen in the following conditions:
1) Peptic ulcer disease
2) Esophagitis
3) Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD)
4) Diabetic gastroparesis or slowing of gastric emptying in diabetes.
Belching has nothing to do with purple feet.

The following are few treatment options for repeated belching:
1) Tab. Pantop before food for 14 days
2) Stay upright without lying down for at least 2 hours after eating.
3) Omez insta sachets are very useful in severe reflux with pain. One sachet into half glass of water would do.
4) Avoid junk and spicy food
5) Include more fiber in diet.
6) Daily exercise for 45 min at least 5 days a week is recommended.

If his symptoms don't come down, you may need to consult a gastroenterologist for further evaluation.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Hi,

Constant belching in an elderly person can have various causes, such as:
* Gastrointestinal problems: Belching may be a sign of gastrointestinal issues like acid reflux, gastritis, or peptic ulcer disease.
* Diet: Certain foods like onions, garlic, carbonated beverages, or dairy products can cause excessive belching.
* Medications: Some medications can cause belching as a side effect.
* Swallowing air: Eating or drinking too quickly, smoking, or wearing loose dentures can cause swallowing air, which can result in belching.
* Stress and anxiety: Stress and anxiety can cause excessive swallowing of air, leading to belching.

It's essential to have your father-in-law evaluated by his doctor to determine the underlying cause of his belching and other symptoms. The doctor may perform some tests like a blood sugar test or recommend changes to his diet or medications. If necessary, further investigations may be done to rule out any other medical conditions.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Priyanka, General & Family Physician
