What Causes Constant Clearing Of The Throat?

I am constantly clearing my throat, sometimes production a mucus plug. Have had food get caught in throat-food won t go down or come up. That only occasionally & has not happened in quite awhile. I was diagnosed with a hiatal hernia & had an endoscopy that show some scarring. Was prescribed Prilosec. Throat clearing eased up for about a week but has returned. I rarely have heartburn, bloating, diarrhea or constipation. I don t drink or smoke. I am about 30 lb overweight. I don t do that throat clearing once I m in bed at night. I m totally frustrated with this situation T

HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

The more common causes for needing to clear the throat are post nasal drip of mucus or reflux.

One out of five persons with a drip are not aware of the drip itself and only present with the clearing of the throat or in some cases, cough.

The use of a decongestant, even if there is not nasal symptoms of congestion may help though this can sometimes take 1 to 2 weeks to kick in.

I hope this helps
