What Causes Constant Cough Along With Pain Below The Left Ribs?

I have had a continuous cough for about 3 weeks, all productive coughing bringing up phlegm. For the last 4 days, I have had a pain below my left breast on ribs 5 and 6. It almost feels as if I have been punched and it is bruised. It feels better when I push on it which seems odd. I have been trying Ibuprofen and heating pads. I m starting to get nervous that this weird pain won t go away.

Hello,

As this sounds like a spasm of the respiratory system. I will advise you to take up a chest x-ray. Because any persistent cough for more than 2-3 weeks needs an examination by the x-ray. Also, the sputum examination, blood test and urine are advised.

It's just that due to the infection the cough is produced and also the tiredness in the respiratory muscles.

Get done the laboratory examination so the next antibiotics course can be taken.

Also, taking budecort and duolin will be helpful to reduce the respiratory system spasm.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
