What Causes Constant, Extreme Pain Under The Rib Cage?
hi, I am a 64 yo female. I am in pretty good physical condition. I have only migraine headaches since 7 yo which are under control. I have had right lower midline rib pain for last 2 weeks which started out slight pain but has increased to very painful. it is painful to touch my bottom rib and it is painful to move or cough etc. I feel no illness and have good appetite, no pain felt in abdomen only muscle and rib. I did not injure myself in any way or do anything to cause a strain. what could this be. thank you
Here your ribs are tender to touch.... So you have mostly costochondritis associated with muscle strain... Let me know you it is inflammation of costal cartilages ..It could be idiopathic or by viral infection. You might have muscle strain that can occur by any unusual activity....
Rest done.... Avoid strenous work. Take ibuprofen 200 mg for few days. Proper sleep posture.... Hot pad can be applied.... Avoid movement or work that cause pain..
If still no benefit chest x ray done to rule out rib pathology like for ex.fracture.
If needed compression bandage might applied...
Consult physician with keeping this in mind...
Take care.
