What Causes Constant Pain In The Knees?

My knee has been hurting for weeks. It feels like it tight or pulling all the time, as if I were stretching my hamstrings but all the time. It hurts mainly in the back of the knee, but if I sit or stand a certain way then it hurts on the side of my as well. No matter whether I m sitting, walking, lying down, it hurts. I ve been using these knee braces to help and it does a little, but not much. Sometimes the pressure of the brace can hurt to. Also if I push on the sides of the knee it hurt, and it hurt if I press against the back. This has been going on for probably a little over 2 weeks.

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

The pain is sudden onset it may be due to sprain.

If gradual there must be strain yo your joint due to prolong standing, or due to a gradual increase in weight after pregnancy, or decrease in calcium that is your body demands more calcium(breastfeeding).

However, direct assessments help to find out the exact cause. Meanwhile, in the home you can try :

1. hot and cold packs to ur knee
2. rest
3. calcium and Vit D rich foods (milk products, peanuts, pumpkin)
4. regular exercises, walking, try postnatal exercises.

If pain persists or more consult your doctor or physical therapist for painkillers and modalities which gives u relief.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Ivan R. Rommstein, General Surgeon
