Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I've had constant phlegm in my throat for almost a year now. I'm very worried that it's cancer. I've never smoked a day in my life. I don't understand what it could be. It also doesn't help that my doctor doesn't really give me a straight answer. Do you think it could be something serious?
Understanding your concern. As per your query you have symptoms of constant phlegm in the throat which is due to bacterial or viral infection of upper respiratory tract infection.
Need not to worry. I would suggest you to do warm saline gargles 3 to 4 times a day and avoid spicy food. Milk boiled with a pinch of turmeric taken at bedtime as it has antimicrobial properties. Visit ENT specialist once and get it examined and start treatment after proper diagnosis. You should get blood tests and ASO titres measurement done to check level of infection and start proper course of antibiotics along with mucolytic agents. Take soft foods to avoid irritation to the throat. Drink lukewarm water throughout the day.
Hope your concern has been resolved.
Get Well Soon.
Best Wishes, Dr. Harry Maheshwari
