What Causes Constant Ringing In The Ear?

My right ear has had a ringing in it since this past Sunday. Later in the day on Sunday, I noticed that I could not hear out of this ear. The ringing has been non-stop; and, I m able to hear (a little) out of the ear. Any suggestions on what could be causing this.

Hi..
Thanks for the query..

Ringing in ears can occur due to causes like ear infection, perforated eardrum, excess ear wax accumulation, Eustachian tube dysfunction, Meniere's disease, TMJ disorders, Acoustic Neuroma etc.

I would suggest you to consult an Emergency Room and get evaluated and a thorough clinical evaluation and investigations like Audiometry, x Ray MRI can help in diagnosis and treatment can be done accordingly..

Treatment of the underlying cause can help in improving the symptoms..
You can be advised medicines like Tricyclic Anti-depressant like Amitryptiline, anti anxiety medication like Alprazolam, as well as Multivitamin supplements can be advised..
White noise devices can be advised..
You can also be advised Neuromodulation..
Avoid exposure to very loud sounds and also avoid diving, swimming etc..

Hope this helps..

Regards.
