What Causes Constant Spasms And Weakness Between The Neck And Shoulder?
Hi, I have been in physical therapy for 2 weeks, 3x a week. I have a muscle inbetween neck and shoulder that refuses to relax, it is in constant spasm, making muscles in my right arm weak. Had xrays, and ultrasound, no mass, degenerative arthritis in my neck, Have been in pain for 5 weeks, knot in muscle according to therapist. Pain is constant
Neck spasms occur due to stress, injury, bad posture during sleep or overuse. These are involuntary contractions that can have trigger points which become hard & tight.
These type of symptoms are often seen in people working on computers.
Do continue stretch exercises, massage by a therapist is quite effective. Medications like NSAIDS & Naproxen are helpful.
Ice packs are helpful. You can take moist heat if you do not have a swelling.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
Dr Nupur K, General & Family Physician
