General & Family Physician 's  Response
HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

Tenesmus is the name given to the persistent urge to have a bowel movement.

The causes are: (1)colitis (infection of the colon)
(2) inflammatory bowel disease
(3)mass or tumor of the colon
(4)abscess

If it continues then you may need imaging of the bowel by colonoscopy or barium studies.
Colonoscopy would be better since biopsy can be done if there are any abnormal areas seen.

I hope this helps
