What Causes Constant Watering In Eye?

for several months now my right eye has been slow to open when i wake up. this does not last long a gentle rub and it opens. however the last few days the same eye is now very weepy and feels most uncomfortable as if something is in there. i don t want to just go to the pharmacy as they may advise the wrong thing. Your help would be appreciated. Jane

Ophthalmologist 's  Response
Hi Jane and welcome to HCM,
There are several causes for eye watering, but in you case it looks like there could be some sort of infection, since there is a feeling of foreign body sensation. When ever there is an eye infection, we start tearing, in an effort to 'wash' the eye. You can try a antibiotic steroid combination eye drop for a week. The other cause for watering is that our natural drainage channel of the eye, could be blocked. This can be easily treated by flushing, but has to be done by your local ophthalmologist.
Other common cause could be a change in the glasses power.
All the best!!!
