What Causes Constipation After Knee Surgery?

My husband underwent knee surgery two weeks ago. He was having constipation problems, (perhaps due to the Percocet he was taking for pain). Then his doctor prescribed Colace (twice a day), Amitiza (twice a day) for the constipation. He has been having regular bowel movements lately, but is feeling very nauseous. THe surgeon had prescribed Zofran for the nausea...and now he is having some diarrhea and feels very bad. My question is...what course should we be on?? (He will see his general practitioner tomorrow, but what should we do in the meantime? Thanks so much for any helpful advice.

Hello,

Constipation is a common problem. The tablet you have been prescribed are perfect. But there certain other things need to be taken care for constipation control.

Take plenty amount of water and fluid throughout the day. Have enough dietary fibers in diet mostly from green leafy vegetables and fruits. Take isabgool powder spoon every night before sleep.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care
