What Causes Constipation After Using Dulcolax For Detoxification?

I drank 2 large vodka & schwepps tonic with a squeeze of lime for about 4 years. I quit just over a week ago. I am very constipated & bloated. I didn t have a movement for 5 days. Finally took some dolcalax & it cleaned me out. Now the constipation is starting all over again. I ve also cut back on carbs to lose weight. Been eating meat kale cabbage fish for the same amount of time as laying off the vodka. Also drinking plenty of water. Will this pass...No pun intended.

Hi Dear ,

As per your query you have constipation and you are taking vodka for last four years , now you are taking a laxative known as Dulcolax. Well the symptoms you mention in query can occur due to many reasons , but in your case the constipation is due to dehydration , which is caused by long term consumption alcohol . Dulcolax is a stimulant laxative. It acts directly on the bowels, stimulating the bowel muscles to cause a bowel movement , but it is not recommended in severe constipation , because it can cause indigestion in severe constipation , which further increase your problem . I would suggest you to consult gastroenterologist for proper examination , drink plenty of water , eat green vegetables and fruits .
