Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
the other evening I had a painful time while trying to have a bowel movement. all of a sudden I started feeling like I was going to vomit, dizziness set in and cramps in stomach. I sat a little while longer but had to get up for I was so uncomfortable. as I stood up for awhile (sort of bending standing) I finally did start throwing up and did so 3 or 4 times and then I had to sit down as diarrhea set in and lasted quite awhile. I assumed it was stomach flu. I went to bed and stayed there for 2 days. couldn't eat the first day till evening when I ate a few crackers and drank some 7-up. Towards the end of the bowel movements bright red blood came out too. there wasn't blood in feces and I usually watch my bowel movements regular to keep an eye out for blood or mucous(?) do you think this was just flu or could b something else? I am female. 72 yrs old.
1. In an.elderly person (72 years) who gets diarrhea off & on, with or without blood, one must seek an opinion of Gastroenterologist for early sigmoidoscopy or colonoscopy to rule out carcinoma of colon & rectum.
2. Avoid fatty, oily food, ghee, milk, raw vegetables and avoid overeating.
