What Causes Constipation And Fatigue When Diagnosed With Low Heart Rate?

My Dad is in hospice care and his heart function is at 10 to 15%. He was extremely constipated and took some laxatives last Friday. Since last Friday night, he has the opposite problem and is having diarrhea several times each day and night. He has gotten much weaker and my Mom and I want to make him as comfortable as possible. What can we do?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

You should give him:

- banana with yogurt for diarrhea
- probiotics to stabilize intestinal flora
- avoid further laxatives
- plenty of water with oral rehydration salts

If still no improvement, should consult further with his caring doctor.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Albana Sejdini, General & Family Physician
