What Causes Constipation And Flatulence?

Hello Dr. Andrew Rynne, Recently, I have a problem to go to the bathroom. I don t poop for days and farting a lot through the day and it also smells bad. However, recently I also changed my diet a lot, I have been eating around 700 Calories a day and exercise so hard ( most likely I run and not stop for 45 minuets in a 6.5 mile per hour. I also walk 15 minutes for 4.2 mile per hour and ride a bicycle for another 30 minutes and do abs and arms exercise for 30 minuets). I also stop drinking coffee and eating chocolate for a while and most likely my diet is Yogurt in the morning with cup of tea and for the lunch I eat toast ( 70 calories for two slides)with cheese ( fat free) with tea and for dinner I eat one of the two Yogurt or toast with the cheese. And I have been doing this for more than month so I am not really sure what is going on with me lately !

In most cases, our dietary choices could lead to excessive flatulence. Some foods that increase gas include: Beans, cabbage, broccoli, raisins, lentils, prunes, apples, foods high in fructose or sorbitol, such as fruit juices.

These foods can take a long time to digest, leading to the unpleasant smell associated with flatulence.

If your diet doesn’t contain a large amount of carbohydrates or sugars, and you don’t swallow excessive air, your excessive flatulence may be due to a medical condition.

Potential conditions underlying flatulence range from temporary conditions to digestive problems such as inflammatory bowel diseases, gastroenteritis, diabetes or peptic ulcer.

As remedies you should: Look at your diet. If it contains a large amount of carbohydrates that are difficult to digest, try to replace them.

Carbohydrates that are easier to digest, such as potatoes, rice, and bananas, are good substitutes.

Also, try to eat around five to six small meals a day instead of three larger ones to help your digestive process.

Chew properly to avoid doing anything that may increase the amount of air that you swallow.

This includes making sure that you are chewing your food properly, and avoiding chewing gum or smoking. Also, drink some peppermint tea, chamomile tea and ginger.
