Hi, thanks for your query at Healthcare Magic.

I understand your concern.
Not being able to defecate a few days after surgery in the abdominal area is usually a normal thing. Bowel movement after appendectomy takes some time to normalize again. Usually doctors signify it with already the occurrence of flatus / fart. But defecate could be several days after surgery.

But if there are complaints such as:
- Distension of the abdomen,
- Fever,
- Severe pain in surgical wounds, and other complaints,
then you can consult back to your treating doctor.

The healing of appendicitis usually takes several weeks. But if the appendix is broken / perforated, it may take a longer time. To help with healing, what can be done at home:
1. Avoid excessive activity during the healing period. If surgery is done laparoscopically, rest 3-5 days. But if with open surgery, rest 10-14 days. Ask your doctor when you can perform normal activities again and what things should and should not do. Usually prohibited heavy activity for approximately 3 months.
2. When coughing or laughing, hold the stomach. If the bowels, do not push too hard, this can be prevented by eating enough fiber foods and sufficient fluid intake.
3. Call your doctor if pain persists despite taking painkiller medication, fever, can not fart / have not defecated for a while, reddish urine, pus or blood-borne fluid from surgery or other complaints.
4. Do not do many moves at once. Begin slowly, for example by walking with a short distance slowly.
5. Get enough rest
6. Eat food that riched with protein like egg, fish, nuts.
7. To prevent nausea, eat ginger candy.

Hope this answer your question, hope you get well soon.
Take care.
