My daughter is 16 months old and has been suffering from difficulty passing stools for about three weeks now. She is being fed mainly fruits, using the p rule. Plums prunes peaches pears and her doctor also prescribed her a mild laxative called Lactulose 10. She has been on this for about two weeks now and still needs help to pushing. She cries everytime she poops and there is always blood when i wipe her butt.

Hello,

If lactulose is not helping enough, the dose can be increased. It is not dangerous to do so because lactulose is not absorbed in the bowel and she will not risk overdose. Especially if she has still constipation, it is advisable to continue to increase the dose until she has easy stools. Another possible alternative is to try movicol sachets diluted in water.
This softens the stools and maybe a bit superior to lactulose in treating constipation.

It is good she is having fruit regularly as well. Drinking plenty and keeping her hydrated is also recommended.

I hope this answers your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
