Hi, My child is 22 days old and having constipation issue as from last 4 days he haven t pass stool and vomit when ever he take feed. Earlier also he was suffering from same problem, I have consulted with Dr. he advice Colicaid drops 4 drops every 8 hours for 3 days. He passed stool once and now again not able to pass stool from 4 days. What you suggest ?
If your baby is straining, it doesn't necessarily mean that he's constipated.
Look for these signs for constipation:
-Crying and discomfort, irritability or pain before passing stool or dry, hard, pellet like stool or Foul-smelling wind and loss of appetite.
Formula feeds make babies prone to have constipation because formula can be harder to digest than breast milk, causing stool to be firm and bulky.
A breastfed baby is unlikely to get constipated. Breast milk produces almost always soft stool, even if a baby hasn’t passed stool for a few days.
You may take following measures to relieve the symptoms:
1) Gently move your baby’s legs in a bicycling motion to help move the hard poo along her intestine.
2) If your baby is drinking formula, give her extra water in between feeds, but don’t dilute the formula. Too much powder can dehydrate your baby, causing constipation.
3) Try breast feeding at each feed followed by formula feeds if required.
4) give colicaid drops or bonnisan drops as prescribed by your doctor earlier.
5) You should also burp your baby in middle of feeds and after feeds properly to relieve gassy abdomen.
Hopefully this will help you.
Take care,
Regards,
