What Causes Contraction In Throat And Abdomen Followed By Dry Heaves?

I am experiencing contraction in my throat and abdomen resulting in dry heaves. This happens about one to two times per day over the past few days. After three to five heaves, the feeling goes away and I feel normal again. I am not suffering any other symptoms and there does not seem to be a pattern.

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi,

The commonest causes I can think about are as follows:
* Gastritis
* GERD
* Mild gastroenteritis*
* Pharyngitis
* Stress and anxiety lead symptoms

I would advise you the following:
* Take a OTC PPI like Omeprazole
* Antacids when on empty stomach
* Domperidone may need a prescription
* These should solve your problems

If not then consult your Doctor for proper clinical evaluation, examination and investigations for proper diagnosis and further management.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. T. Chandrakant, General Surgeon
