What Causes Cough Along With Chest Pain On The Left Side?

I m 50 years old and just got over a cold and I still have a mild cough. About 1 1/2 weeks I started having a pain on the left side of my chest it came and went and now I m experiencing pain across the top of my chest. On a scale of 1(mild) to 5 I give it a 1 to 1 1/2.
