What Causes Cough Along With Sore Throat?

For a week or so I have had a cough at night, especially, with itchy and slightly sore throat. I don t have much energy but am able to do stuff around the house. I am not doing my walking outside that I was doing. No fever, appetite is ok. Sometimes the cough almost chokes me. I don t see any spots on my throat. I am sucking on cough drops a lot, even at night. Any ideas? Thank you.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,
Thanks for posting in HCM.
I understand your concern.
Cough and sore throat could be caused due to inflammation of the mucosa in Pharynx.
Kindly do the following to overcome it.
1. Take steam inhalation twice daily.
2. Do salt water gargling with warm water twice daily.
3. Use decongestant medication when necessary.
4. Chew medicated lozenges regularly.
Gradually, you should be able to overcome the problem.
All the best.
Regards,
Dr.Ashakiran.S.,
