Hi,

Noted the history related to your Mother having depression, taking medicines for that, but developed loss of appetite and no taste. Developed cough recently which Doctor says may be due to psychological condition, X-ray of chest not done.
Depression can be manifested through various measures, can present in many ways and needs further evaluation by a Psychiatrist so that a proper care, adjustment of doses, psychotherapy, counselling can help further.
If possible get the Dog back or get another dog so that her condition may reverse back to normal.
About hte coughing your Doctor can only tell whether this is due to psychological factor or an actual problem in pharynx or the respiratory system, investigated and treated accordingly.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. T. Chandrakant, General Surgeon
