What Causes Cough, Difficulty In Swallowing And Teeth Pain In A Thyroid Patient?

I have an enlarged thyroid, I have an echo and bloodwork pending but I have gained 20 lbs in six months and am tachy with a heart rate of 170 s to 180 s with only mild exertion. I am 150 lbs and very active and don t eat a lot. I cough and recently started drooling and have difficulty swallowing. Is pain in my teeth a common side effect of having a goiter? I have difficulty chewing and most of my teeth are in pain. This only started about 3 months ago.

Hi
Thanks for posting your query on HCM
Difficulty swallowing and cough could be explained by your enlarged thyroid.Enlarged thyroid may be accompanied by compressed oesophagus and thus swallowing problems. It could also result in throat irritation/compression and thus cough. However, a respiratory infection still needs to be eliminated. The increased heart rate could be a result of overactive thyroid.A more recent thyroid function test will be helpful here and if possible another imaging investigation.
The teeth pain have no relationship with the thyroid problem.I will suggest you see a Dentist to evaluate them .
In all, i will advise you see your Doctor for evaluation as your symptoms could be caused by many different conditions not only your underlying thyroid disorder.
Hope my answer will help you
