What Causes Cough While Lying Down And Sore Throat?

My daughter, 27 years old, keeps coughing during the day. During day is mild but when she lies down at night is much worse. She wakes up in the middle of the night with sore throat and sever throat pain. Also she wakes up with stong sore throat in the morning

Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern. As per your query your daughter have symptoms of cough while lying down and sore throat which seems to be due to respiratory tract infection leading to postnasal drip.

Need not to worry. I would suggest you to consult ENT specialist for proper diagnosis. Doctor may order test like swab test and blood test to rule out condition like acid reflux and strep throat. Doctor may prescribe antibiotics amoxiclav at least for 10 days along with decongestant. Do warm saline gargles several times a day. You should take steam twice a day. Maintain proper hygiene.
