What Causes Cough With Phlegm And Ringing In Ears?

I live in the pacific NW, and many times have a lot of phlem in the am, I cough heavily and spit the phlem, but every so often when coughing, feel dizzy and a ringing in ears, lightheaded and like I am going to pass out. Figured am and heavy coughing, but 2 days ago chipped in for a birdie at golf and said HEY, and symptoms hit and I bent over cause I thought I was going to pass out?

Hi dear ,

As per your query you have phlegm with cough and dizziness with ringing in ear . Well the symptom you mention in query occur due to infection . Sometimes cough with phlegm occur due to post nasal drip which further occur due to untreated upper respiratory track infection , sinusitis and pharyngitis . This phlegm can travel ti ear through eustachian tube and cause ear infection in middle ear known as otitis media which further produce symptoms like dizziness and ringing in ear . I would suggest you to consult ENT specialist or otolaryngologist for proper diagnosis . Docto may order throat swab test , viral culture test , otoscopic test and CT scan .Doctor may prescribe antibiotics course along with anti inflammatory , decongestants and mucolytic agents . For now do warn saline gargles and apply dry warm compresses to ear .
