What Causes Cough With Phlegm Followed By Chest Pain?

I am experiencing a cough with phlegm ( I do not smoke) I have started having chest pain, tightness in chest and fatigue. This has been going on for a week or so. Two days ago I started experiencing my heart fluttering flip flopping. It felt like it was going to come in to my throat. Last night I was awakened because it felt like my heart stopped beating then it felt strange like it hopped in my chest with a thud. It started back but then it felt as though it stopped again. I could breath but it felts as though my heart stopped. I had to check my pulse to see if it was beating. My pulse was not steady it was skipping beats.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

It would be best to be seen in light of the abnormal heart rhythm. An ECG would needed to look at the heart rate and rhythm. If there are any abnormalities then they can be identified. Fever can cause an increase in heart rate so if there is any fever with your cough, then this may be a factor.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Michelle Gibson James, General & Family Physician
