Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Coughing Along With Throat Irritation And Fatigue?
I am very concerned about my symptoms -- coughing, throat irritation, fatigue. And I am most of all worried about cancer. The doctors I have consulted in Wilmington NC don t seem to know anything about thyroid problems -- hypothyroidism, hyperthyroidism, or lupus. I need help and expert opinions. I am 74, married, fair health. Any advice you can offer will be very valuable to me. Thanks and God bless you!
Thyroid disease (low levels of hormones) can cause fatigue but would not cause coughing or irritation of the throat. High thyroid hormones are not associated with any of these symptoms. Lupus can cause fatigue as well.
It is possible that the chronic cough may be due to post nasal drip of mucus since this has been shown to be the most common reason for chronic cough and would also irritate the throat.
Other common reasons for chronic cough are asthma, GERD, non-asthmatic eosinophilic bronchitis.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Michelle Gibson James, General & Family Physician
