Hi, I quit smoking cigarettes 14 days ago, I m 18 years old and smoked for 3 years, I have coughed up a couple of tiny black dots and was just wondering what they are? I had a lung scan a couple of months ago because I coughed up blood but the results were all clear.
Ah... very good giving relevant information. The flecks are dried blood. HOWEVER, small amounts are rarely a sign of anything serious and are more often from a very small blood vessel being irritated. Very small nose bleeds, dental issues, small areas of sore throat are some common causes. With the negative lung scan other serious possibilities are less likely. Another set of (non-serious) possibilites are from junk in the lung which are now healing enough to clear themselves up. Hope this is helpful
