What Causes Coughing Up Of Blood In Case Of Lung Infection?
I have fungus infection in my upper left lung +. Last week I coughed up blood one half of the day,,,now a week later I;M doing it again For 2 months I have been on intravenous once aday ofMICAFUNGIN,,,,,should I call my pulmonary doctor?? I M 82 years old
Thanks for your question on HCM. Hemptysis (coughing out blood) is not a good sign. It suggests worsening. Causes may be 1. Worsening of underlying fungal infection 2. Concurrent TB 3. Concurrent bacterial infection 4. Possibility of malignancy. So you should definitely consult pulmonologist and get done repeat chest x ray and CT Thorax for better evaluation of underlying disease. Also get done bronchoscopy and BAL Analysis for above mentioned causes. So take appointment of pulmonologist and discuss these things.
