What Causes Coughing Up Of Mucus?

I am coughing up mucus and cannot lay down to sleep because of the congestion and coughing up the the (mess) in my system. What can I take to quell this problem and correct my body by getting rid of the infectious condition to which I picked up by being around other coughing people.

Hi,
Thanks for asking. I understand your concern.
You need cough expectorent &anti allergic pill over the counter along with hot saline gargles. Have plain simple food&lot of warm water.
If no relief /sputum is yellowish/have fever . go to family physician for specific antibiotic
