General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,coughing with blood is known as hemoptysis.
It could be due to chronic severe bronchitis, aspergillosis or tuberculosis, bronchiectasis etc.
You must take him to the chest physician and undergo routine blood investigations with bloody sputum, chest X- ray or HRCT thorax to make diagnosis.
If above investigations comes normal then one should do bronchoscopy to rule out tumour, edema, embolism etc.
Treatment is mainly depend on the underlying cause but symptomatic treatment like bronchodilators can be given.
So,consult pulmonologist first.
Thanks
