What Causes Coughs And Throat Irritation After A Meal?
After eating a meal, my brother hacks and coughs and clears his throat for about an hour. It is quite annoying to me and I m sure it s no thrill for him. What could be causing this. He won t go to the doctor unless he s squirting blood, so if I had a reasonable idea what it could be, maybe I could get him to see a doctor about it.
Need not to worry. I would suggest you to consult ENT specialist for proper checkup. Doctor may order throat swab test and blood test and may prescribe antibiotics along with anti inflammatory medications and refer you to gastroenterologist. For now
- Avoid large and heavy meals.
- Avoid sharp, spicy food and take soft and bland diet.
- Do Not lay down immediately after having food.
- Take cough expectorants and do warm saline gargles.
Hope your concern has been resolved.
Get Well Soon.
Best Wishes, Dr. Harry Maheshwari
