What Causes Cracked Skin Despite Using Clobetasol And Mupirocin For Contact Dermatitis?

I’m using Clobetasol, then I apply Mupirocin on top of the cream. Per my dermatologist for contact dermatitis..it works for a while then I go off the meds and within 2 weeks my fingertips are re cracking. Do you think I’m using the cream and ointment wrong?

Hello,

As per your case history of contact dermatitis, my treatment advice is:

1. Avoid using any new products like soap or perfume.
2. Apply a mild antibiotic plus steroid cream like Fusiderm-B cream twice daily on affected skin.
3. Take an antihistamine medication like Levocetirizine twice daily for 7 to 10 days.
4. Other treatment options are oral steroid like prednisone or betamethasone taken only after consulting a dermatologist.
