Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hi I m 19 and am into bodybuilding, I have been cutting lately and recently my joints have been making more popping/ cracking sounds than usual. There is no pain and no issues with it, I m just curious if there is a reason for it being more frequent, if it s cause of my cut I m on or what it could be. I looked online and some said it s normal, some said you re growing because of my age, other said it could be a thyroid problem. The thyroid thing freaked me out, however, I haven t had any issues or symptoms stating there s something wrong with my thyroid except the popping/ cracking sound. So I guess I just want to know if this is normal and possibly why it s happening. Thank you for your time.
Understanding your concern. As per your complain cracking and popping sound in joints from joints can be due to conditions like Rheumatoid Arthritis,Osteoarthritis, bursitis, and tendinitis. You should consult an Orthopaedic surgeon and get evaluated and he can advise you investigations like MRI, CT SCAN, x rays, joint fluid tests, blood tests, serum calcium levels,Rheumatoid factor tests etc to rule out the exact cause of the problem and treat you accordingly. Doctor may prescribe you to take anti inflammatory painkillers like Naproxen, muscle relaxants, calcium supplements and can also advise you physiotherapy for relief. For now apply warm compresses and do gentle massage of joint. Doctor may also recommend joint replacement surgery in case of severe damage .
