What Causes Cracking Noise In Neck And Tender Spot Below Head?

My neck is sore and it is constantly clicking when it is moved in various ways. There is a spot on the right at the base of my head that is tender to the touch and I have been having slight headaches. This is odd because I very rarely get headaches. When my neck cracks it is quite painful as I move it to release it and get the clicking sound. Is this just old age or should I have it check. I am otherwise in good health. Thank you. Eileen

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello dear Greetings
Regarding your symptoms of cracking sounds in your neck with headache I am suggesting that you are gradually developing a condition called cervical spondylitis
In view of this please do a neck x-ray to rule out this condition
Meanwhile regarding your experience of a tender spot at base of your head i believe this is a bacteria skin infection possible from a haircut
Please see a dermatologist specialist for expert management
I hope this helps Regards
