What Causes Cracking Noise While Turning The Head?

Hi, There are multiple cracking and snapping noises in the head when I turn the head, wash my hair, move the head forward, etc. It is coming from the side of the head (loud snapping) or around the center back of the head. Wondering whether it is muscle, ligament, etc related or else (bone). I don t feel pain when I hear those noises nor do I feel pain in the neck. Thank you
