Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hi, for approximately two years now, every time I swallow, I hear a click in my ears.. Also, for the same length of time, I have an excess amount of saliva being produced in my mouth. I am having to swallow approximately every 15 seconds.. All of this started when I had a cold/flu.. When all other regular cd/flu symptoms dissappeared, these new symptoms remained.. I have been prescribed various medications, seen an ENT specialist and was told I have no block in my eustacian tube. This was choked with a camera being put up my nose.. I have not had any scans.
Usually the crackling sound produced during swallowing occur due to condition known as eustachian tube dysfunction . As your doctor already rule out eustachian blockage , so we have to look for other possibilities . There can be other reasons also like ear wax and otitis media .
Otitis media is an accumulation of fluid in the middle ear.
I would suggest you to consult ENT specialist again for proper examination . and discuss the above two possibilities .
Doctor may clean the ear to remove ear wax . or prescribe antibiotics for at least 10 days along with decongestants .
Doctor should also give proper treatment for cold and flu , because these can be contributing factors in causing ear infection .
Keep you ears dry , cover them while bathing and keep warm compresses on external ear 2-3 times a day , it will evaporate water from ear .
