What Causes Cramping Pain Below The Rib Cage?

I m 52 yrs old and most of my life I ve gotten a severe cramp under my right rib while running or gardening if I have eaten within 4 hours. For about a week now I ve had a constant feeling that something is under my right rib. It seems to move when I twist, bend or sit. A few days ago while painting a room and an hour after eating, I got a very severe cramp under my right rib and through my back that was only alleviated by lying down. I had a chest x-ray and an upper right quadrant ultrasound yesterday that were both normal. I work out with nautilus equipment, do yoga regularly and eat healthy & I don t drink. My doctor doesn t know what this could be. Any ideas?

Hello,

The cramps below rib cage with history of painting a room, indicates underlying ligament sprain or strain most likely. Following are best possible measures to get well soon:
- Heating pad use for 5 minutes each three times a day to be applied over the rib area hurting
- Local application of spray or ointment containing Linseed oil with diclofenac
- Avoiding particular postures exacerbating pain as sudden bending, twisting, weight lifting, slipping over the affected part
- Analgesic tablets as ibuprofen or tramadol hydrochloride after meals with proton pump inhibitor preferably if there is no history of drug sensitivity

Consult your doc as per the need of the condition.
