What Causes Cramps And Weakness In Fingers Along With Goosebumps On Forearm?

Three days ago about 9pm my right thumb began to feel weak. No pain, just a strange sensation. The next day my right thumb and heel of my hand cramped up four times throughout the day. Yesterday my hand was just sore along the heel of my right hand. I m assuming from the cramps. Now today the heel is still a little sore. But now I m getting the sensation of goosebumps on my right forearm. The goosebumps never show up but it feels just like it. I m starting to get a little paranoid thinking something is wrong with me. I go back to my regular doctor on August 19th. Not sure what to do.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Overuse of hand muscles, dehydration or electrolyte deficiency are the most common causes. Nerve compression, neuropathy, tendon inflammation are the other causes of weakness, cramps, spasms or numbness. Carpal tunnel syndrome is caused by pressure on a nerve (median nerve) in the wrist. The symptoms include tingling, numbness, weakness, or pain of the fingers and hand.

Blood sugar levels and serum electrolytes should be investigated. Rest to the hand and relief of pressure in case of nerve compression, correction of serum electrolytes and blood sugar should be done based on the cause.

Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Saranya Ramadoss, General & Family Physician
