Over the last few weeks I have had cramping in my right foot when I lay down at night and it sometimes wakes me up. The last 3 nights the cramping has gotten worse in my right for and now up my leg. It woke me up 2 times last night. I have crohnes disease and I am very careful to stay hydrated. Is this something I should go I. To see a dr for? Any thoughts on what it could be? Thank you, Karen
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
Cramps what you are experiencing in the foot could be due to: • Calcium deficiency • Electrolyte imbalance • Antioxidant compounds deficiency
Kindly take calcium supplements along with calcium-rich foods every day. You also need to take oral rehydration solution (ORS) regularly. Along with the above, you need to take antioxidant compounds like vitamin E, vitamin C, selenium, and lipoic acid regularly for a month. Gradually, you should be able to overcome it and be back to normal.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Ashakiran S
