Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Craving For Sweets Post Treatment For Kidney Failure?
My son was diagnosed with kidney failure about 3 weeks ago. The doctors found that it was due to an acne medication he just started and that he started taking whey protein. He is doing fine now. However, he is constantly hungry now and craves sweets all the time. He is a very healthy eater (avoids gluten and most carbs, eats many vegetables and fruits, drinks almond milk, eats yogurt... and watches the number of grams of carbs and sugar in everything he eats, drinks water all day with an occasional glass of unsweetened tea.) He lifts weights 3-4 times a week and plays basketball in the evenings too to stay in shape. He is 21. Any ideas for the sugar cravings? My husband and I both have a history of diabetes in our families so I am concerned for that reason. THanks
HI Well come to HCM I really appreciate your concern for your son, if is eating more sugar then this is not the sigh of any diabetes but this could be individual test or like and this goes on changing from person to person some like sweet very much while some one do not like this, and this may not be sign of any disease, so need to worry about this, take care.
