What Causes Crawling Sensation On Shoulders, Neck And Head?
i have creepy crawly feelings in the back of shoulders, neck, and head. i also feel hot most of the time. ive been going through therapy for years and im no longer depressed but that feeling wont stop. i dont have the feelings all the time. they happen at least every 2 months and can last up to 2 weeks. ive also been having pain in my toes on my left foot and and when i eat sugar but ive been tested for diabetes and kidney disease and both were negative. what is going on with me.
The abnormal sensations are likely due to abnormal function of the nerves, this is called neuropathy. It can be temporary or permanent and there are different possible causes.
Some of the more common causes are low vitamin b12 or folate, thyroid disease, liver disease, a side effect of medication, trauma to the nerves (eg arthritis of the spine), abnormal B6 levels, MS, rheumatoid arthritis.
In some persons, the cause is not found. In some cases, the symptoms resolve on their own. It may be best to be assessed by a neurologist to find the cause, if possible.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
Dr Michelle Gibson James, General & Family Physician
