Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have been having this squeaking sound or creaking sound in my ear for two years now. Not ringing but creaking like another user said walking on an old floor but higher pitch. The sound kids make with their lips pucker with water as playing. That is the best I can describe it. I put water into my left ear it goes away. What is this? I have never ever had this in my life. I use to work at a night club around loud music but that has stopped. It is not ringing.
The most probable cause with a history of working in loud sound is suggestive of an acoustic trauma that can make you feel the creaking sound as you have explained. Spasmodic contraction of the muscles related to the smallest bones in middle ear like malleus, incus, stepes can cause similar sounds. Continuous observation under otoscope can find this. Botox injection then can help. Other causes can be related to ear drum issues. Consult an ENT surgeon and discuss these things to get you a proper diagnosis, have relevant tests of audiometry, CT scan as and if needed
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. T. Chandrakant, General Surgeon
