What Causes Curved Finger Nails?

I recently noticed a few of my fingernails are growing with a curve on the ends and decided to look this up. Much to my surprise, there are some serious illnesses associated with this condition. I do not have COPD or Emphysema and I am not sure what the other lung disease is but have had a CT scan of my lungs for the past two years (due to smoking for 34+ years) and they look good. I quit smoking 6.5 years ago and am 70 years of age now. So, what s up?

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Which side is the curve towards up or towards down??
It may be due to iron deficiency anemia or clubbing or psoriasis etc.
Until examination is done it is difficult to say what it is.
