What Causes Cuts And Tears In Vaginal Opening?

i was on my period a couple weeks ago and was using super absorbency tampons on a regular flow because i didnt have any regular sized ones. when i went to pull the tampon out it hurt really bad...like it ripped something out...i knew it was probably because it was too dry. i finally finished my period and then a couple days later started bleeding again for like a day and a half. i tried to have sex shortly after and it was sooooo painful that i couldn't. then a couple days later i tried again and it was painful...but i dealt with it. it was sore the day after but i just ignored it. then today i has sex with my boyfriend and it was not painful during sex but then he went in at a certain angle and i felt it again. after sex i was bleeding. it wasnt period blood though...so i had him take a look for me. he said it looks like the right side of the hole is a perfect circle and the left side looks like someone tooks scissors and cut slits into it. it is kind of painful...what should i do? he said it looks like it might need stitches. any suggestions?
