What Causes Dark Brown Discharge And Unpleasant Odor From Vagina?

My teenage daughter is experiencing a heavy dark brown discharge from her vagina. She says it smells like fish. The smell is strong-she said that a couple of people who were around her today mentioned smelling a bad smell. What could this be? She says it s been going on for about 2 weeks.

Hi,
Thanks for posting in HCM.
I have read your description and understand your concern.
What symptoms you are describing of your teenage daughter of dark brown discharge and unpleasant fishy odour from vagina appears to be combined yeast and bacterial infection.
Kindly do the following to overcome the symptoms.
1. Clean the area with mild antiseptic solution like Savlon thrice daily.
2. Use pH balancing solution like 'v wash' regularly.
3. Take Tablet.Levocetrizine once a day for 3 to 5 days to control itching, in case it is present.
4. Apply Antifungal medication Fluconazole as single dose vaginal pessary and take a course of oral antibiotics Tablet.Metronidazole.
5. Ask her to wear loose fitting undergarments to provide proper ventilation and avoid friction in the area.
Maintain clean and proper genital hygiene.
Gradually, the symptoms should subside and she should feel better.
