What Causes Dark Circles Under Eye And Recurring Headache After Head Injury?

A little over a year ago, I slipped and fell and hit my head very hard on the, ice. I landed on directly on the back of my head. It didn t knock me out, but I heard ringing for a while and felt a little confused. I had a headache but just took some over the counter medication and delt with it. I didn t seek medical attention because I didn t have insurance at the time. It was very sore to the touch on the spot that hit so I was careful not to lay on the back of my head. When I woke up the next morning, I had dark circles under my eyes. I still wake up with the dark circles under my eyes, I have headaches two to three times a week, and the location is still somewhat sore to the touch. I have always suffere from bouts of depression, but I ve been forgetting things more often. I thought maybe it was due to stress. I m 47 years old and am afraid that somethingmay all of a sudden happen! Please give me your advice.

Hello,

You slipped, fell and hit the back of your head. Presently you have developed dark circles under the eye. You are having headache, confusion and forgetfulness. An injury to your eye may cause bruising or cause damage to the skin around it. A black eye is the appearance of bruising around the eyes. It’s caused due to trauma to the head or face, which causes bleeding beneath the skin. When the small blood vessels or capillaries, beneath the skin break, blood leaks into the surrounding tissue. Thus causing bruising or black eye.

Black eyes that is caused due to minor injury can be treated with ice, rest, and pain medication. Applying ice pack gives relief. Alternately applying cold and warm compress will help to reduce the bruise and promote blood circulation. Taking vitamins C and K will also help to promote healing and reduce swelling. To help reduce headache and pain you can take acetaminophen or Ibuprofen.

Since you are a little forgetful, make sure that you do not have any loss of vision and sensory impairment. However, you are suggested to get clinically examined by a GP, get imaging tests (X-ray, CT, MRI) done. Any pathology detected will be treated accordingly.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
