What Causes Dark Color And Rough Texture Of The Skin Post Burn Injury?

A firecracker blew up in my sons hand. He lost his middle finger and part of his index. The palm of the hand was severely injured. Skin from his amputated middle finger was used to cover the palm. His palm and index have turned black and leather like. Is this normal???

General & Family Physician 's  Response
HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

Slight darkening of a traumatized area is a normal reaction. Thickening can also occur as part of the normal inflammatory process.

If it is very severe, it may indicate , however, that the skin is dying or there is an infection present.
It may be best to take him to the doctor for review to rule out these possibilities.

I hope this helps
