What Causes Dark Color On A Healing Knee Scrape Wound?

I ve had a knee scrape for the past week now. For the first 3 days, it was scabbing up fine, the usual healing process. However, the scab broke on the 4th day, so I had to bandage it again. Now, it s turned into a disgusting black color. Is this a sign of infection?

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

The dark black scab is dead tissue post scraping injury. It does not reveal signs of infection and has to be removed for getting better pink granulation tissue underneath. Local application of Neosporin or Polymycin cream will help for best recovery and healing process. Control of blood sugar is of paramount importance.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel, General Surgeon
