What Causes Dark Coloured Urine Along With Bad Odour?

My urine has smelled like sewage and been dark and cloudy for almost a month now. I have been drinking more water than I ever have in my life with no change. I don t have insurance to go to the doctor so I m wondering if I should go to the hospital or start taking antibiotics?

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

As per my clinical experience, the dark urine with bad odor indicates urinary tract infection by bacteria or fungi most likely. My guidelines at present:
- Continue to drink plenty of liquids
- Cranberry sachets or pills
- Vaginal hygiene
- Get a urine culture with your doc and start antibiotics as per the culture sensitivity report for best results
- Wiping genitals from front to back after washroom use
- Use washroom as and when required
- Do not withheld urine
- Safe sexual practise
- Avoid smoking and alcohol if consuming

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel, General Surgeon
